Boys Just Want to Have Fun

Even though there seems to be a big portion of Walt Disney World focused on Princesses, you can find just as much for your little boy to enjoy. There are plenty of characters, rides and shows that will make his trip something to talk about for a long time.

Characters well worth meeting are found at every park. Whether he is into Mickey Mouse and friends, Winnie the Pooh and friends, Stitch, the characters associated with Pixar, or even Pirates, he’ll have a blast.

Disney’s Hollwood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has quite a line up of characters for him to meet. For the younger crowd you can find the characters from the Little Einsteins, Handy Manny, and JoJo & Goliath (from Playhouse Disney shows). Great characters recognized by young to pre-teen that can be found are characters like Lightning McQueen & Mater from Cars, Buzz & Woody from Toy Story, Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc., and Power Rangers. There is a show in the streets called Block Party Bash. A lot of the Pixar characters are on floats and there is great music. Kids are encouraged to participate and dance. This is fun for all age groups.

The rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are geared more for older children. The Toy Story Mania ride is the most child friendly ride I would highly recommend. After that the other rides are up to discretion of parents. Tower of Terror and Rockin’ Roller Coaster may be too intense for some children. Please pay attention to height requirements and your child’s reaction to the ride. You don’t want to have a bad experience. The shows such as Lights, Motors, Action!, Indiana Jones stunt show and Fantasmic are great, but do expect loud noises and special effects. For those Star Wars enthusiasts you must check out the Jedi Training Academy—they’ll love seeing Darth Vader!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has quite a variety of great characters too. You can find Lilo & Stitch, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Flik, Mickey Mouse, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Jiminy Cricket and many more! They are usually dressed for adventure and ready for a picture with you little guy. Go to Camp Minnie Mickey for the largest group of characters to choose from in one place.

While there are not a lot of rides for toddler age boys, they do exist. They can enjoy the safari in the Africa section, the Wildlife Express Train (takes you from Africa to Rafiki’s Planet Watch) and the Tricera Top Spin ride in Dinoland. The Tricera Top Spin is similar to the Dumbo ride at Magic Kingdom. The family friendly shows are a better bet for little boys. The Festival of the Lion King show is tops in my book. The Finding Nemo show is also very popular. Be cautious about bringing children under the age of 5 to the It’s Tough to Be a Bug show that is a 3D movie under the Tree of Life. It can be a little too intense.

Bigger boys will have a great time at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Rides like Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest will give them the thrills they might be seeking. And they may very well enjoy the It’s Tough to Be a Bug show. The ride to be cautious about with little ones under the age of 10 would be Dinosaur. It is a very dark and sometimes VERY loud ride.

Epcot

Epcot has some characters that he’ll enjoy and they are mainly located in Future World. You can find Mickey Mouse, Donald, Goofy and Chip & Dale. In the World Showcase you can find Aladdin with Jasmine in Morocco, Beast with Belle in Italy and Winnie the Pooh & Tigger in the UK. Donald Duck can sometimes be found in Mexico. He looks very cute in a sombrero.

The rides that can be enjoyed are the Seas with Nemo & Friends, Grand Fiesta Tour (boat ride) starring the Three Caballeros, Maelstrom (boat ride) a Viking ship ride through a magical land, Living with the Land (boat ride), and last but not least Spaceship Earth. There are other rides, however given their intensity or height requirements they may not be appropriate for most children.

Magic Kingdom

At Magic Kingdom you can find Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Stitch, Buzz, Woody, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and many, many more! As with most locations that you can visit a character there is a Photopass photographer available. Take advantage of having photographer handy, so that you can get your picture with your little guy and his hero.

Rides are plentiful for young to pre-teen, and teen boys. Your real little guys will enjoy Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Tomorrowland Speedway, It’s a Small World, Walt Disney World Railroad train, Mady Tea Party, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, the Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin and more!

For the more adventurous young man, Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion will be ok (taking those under 5 is at your discretion for the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean). The Tomorrowland Speedway will be fun for little boys that meet the height requirement since they then drive by themselves. There are quite enough thrill rides such as the newly renovated Space Mountain is very popular, Stitch’s Great Escape, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain and more. Needless to say, 1 to 3 days can be filled enjoying it all.

A must see show for all ages is the Mickey’s PhilharMagic, and don’t miss the Wishes fireworks!

Bringing a little boy to Walt Disney World will have more than enough magical moments to cherish whether they wish to meet Mickey Mouse, ride the rides or see a show.
